Visitors to Historic Winton on 18th and 19th May can see some of the rarest French vintage cars to grace Australian soil in an impressive exhibit mounted by the Bugatti Club Australia.

President of the Club, Geoff Murdoch of Hawthorn, said that cars involved in the French Display would include vintage Bugattis celebrating the marques’ 110 years, Salmson celebrating 100 years, Lombard, De Lage, Amilcars, Ballot and others.

Mr Murdoch who owns a 1920s Brescia Bugatti said that his touring car still runs perfectly.

“Last year, the Brescia toured 5,000km around Victoria and across to Tasmania in the one trip and performed faultlessly,” he said.

Some proud Bugatti owners still compete in the Regularity competition in which they must achieve or come close to their predicted race time.

Mr Murdoch also expects some of the racing Bugattis to compete in J and Regularity race groups as Bugatti was more successful than Ferrari in the 1920 and 1930s.

Founder of Bugatti, Ettore Bugatti said “I build the cars I like. If people wished to buy them, well, that could possibly be arranged.”

The owners of these elegant heritage vehicles will be on hand at the display to share their history and answer questions.

The French display will be located in the Corporate Centre at Winton Motor Raceway, in the lower part of the Competition Paddock.

Historic Winton – Australia largest all-historic race and display event will be held on 18th and 19th May at Winton Motor Raceway.

Discounted online tickets are now available through www.historicwinton.org until midnight, Thursday, 16 May. Tickets are then available at the gate from 8am on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May.
